Constructive Criticism is a Compliment

Getting constructive criticism — or plain old criticism — is hard. We all know that. Giving constructive criticism — or plain old criticism — is also hard. But both are good for your career. University of Miami Law School legal writing professor Alyssa Dragnich penned a fantastic article in Washington Lawyer about the value of training lawyers in legal writing, and how givers can reframe how they think about it:

Lawyers on the receiving end should also reframe how they think about those critiques. Critiques aren't insults; they're compliments. The reason senior lawyers take time from their busy days to give you critiques is because you're worth the investment. They're mentors, not hecklers, and they're helping you build your legal career.
