On-Demand Résumé Writing

Welcome to Live Résumé Writing via Screen Share

Finally! The perfect option between working on your own and hiring a professional résumé writer to create from scratch.

In 2016, Shauna developed on-demand résumé writing to help lawyers in a hurry, who had a relatively straight-forward career narrative to tell, who have a résumé that’s in decent shape already, or who simply needed a less expensive option than bespoke résumé writing. After launching the new service in 2017, however, it immediately became clear that on-demand résumé writing was much more than “bespoke lite.” On-demand writing is a unique, interactive experience that has rapidly become a favorite of lawyers at every stage of their careers.

Résumé Cram with Live Edit

Some reports say you have 30 seconds to win over a recruiter. Legal recruiters, general counsel, and others in the legal industry say it’s more like five seconds.

Over the years, we had many attorneys ask for a “no nonsense, everything on the table” opinion of their existing résumés to find out if their résumés pass the Five Second Test. Some already know their résumés don’t. What they want to know is why and what they can do better.

These lawyers are asking for more than a résumé writer’s blunt criticism of what they’re doing wrong. What they’re not looking for is a lengthy résumé writing process or a canned sales pitch masquerading as a résumé review. They want a personalized, substantive experience. They want sophisticated, practical, and actionable strategies on how to tell their complex stories to law firms, corporate legal departments, recruiting firms, and others in today’s legal hiring market. They want those strategies fast.

Real-Time Résumé Writing Via Screen Share

The Résumé Cram with Live Edit is more than a résumé critique. We don’t just strategize with you, we actually use screen sharing to interview you and revise your career documents with you, right there and then. We get as much done as we can during our time together. After your Résumé Cram with Live Edit, we email you the edited document so you continue work, if needed, on your own. Want more time with your expert? Sign up for additional sessions as you’d like. As a bonus, we’ve found lawyers can save 50 to 75% by using the on-demand writing track rather than the bespoke track.

** Note to current law students: If you intend to use the resume for OCIs, you’ll need to double-check that your career services office does not required a specific format.

Just Want the Résumé Critique?

No problem. Choose the Résumé Cram: Résumé Critique and Strategy Session rather than one of our Live Edit options.

How On-Demand Writing Works

I was so unsure about doing this [Résumé Cram with Live Edit], but I am so glad I did. You have completely changed my perspective. In one hour, you have completely opened my eyes about how to present myself.
— Former AmLaw 100 partner

The process is simple:

  1. Send us your current résumé. For Live Edit appointments, we’ll need a Word .doc or .docx version. We'll also ask you for your target industry, employers, and roles.
  2. Have an interactive work session with a true expert. Talk through your résumé critique, strategies, and questions. We’ll get done as much as we can in the time we have together to give you a more effective tool to help you reach your goals. In Live Edit work sessions, your expert will be re-writing and editing your résumé to help bring into out your strengths and career narrative.
  3. At the end of your Live Edit work session, your expert will email the updated résumé so that you can continue work on your own. Or sign up for additional Live Edit sessions to continue working together.

It’s that fast and easy. You can even use the process to get critiques on other career documents as well—cover letters, deal sheets, representative matters, executive bios, letters of recommendation, KSAs, and other career documents.

How Much Time Do I Need?

It’s hard to predict exactly how much time your individual client will need. However, based on clients’ experience, here are some minimum recommendations for typical résumés. You can then decide whether to complete your documents on your own or sign up for additional sessions. (Again, while most clients use the on-demand writing process for résumés, you’re welcome to use it for cover letters, letters of recommendation, or other documents.)
