Over the years, I worked with several lawyers who claimed that a messy office sent the message that they were busy. In truth, a messy office often sends the message to your fellow attorneys that you're messy, disorganized, unprofessional, distracting, and worse. In one case, the lawyer's mess was so bad that partners wouldn't let clients near it. And although he claimed he could find things in all that mess, the reality was that he repeatedly had to ask his legal secretary for help; she often had to print the same document over and over and over....
