Is Leadership Teachable? Your Bar Association Says Yes.

Your local bar association has always been an great place to hone technical legal skills and to practice networking. Now, it's also a great place to learn leadership skills that can apply to any aspect of your career.

D.C. Bar Association president and Sidley Austin partner Tim Webster's "From the President" column in Washington Lawyer called "Teaching Leadership" illustrates how bar associations and other non-profit organizations are creating leadership pipelines that benefit both the sponsoring organization and the lawyers who participate.

The program is designed to give participating attorneys a leadership tool kit that includes skills like "consensus building, strategic thinking, problem solving, and effective communication," as well as "integrity, treating others with respect, and valuing diversity."
